		<head>Biographical Sketch</head> 
		<p>Cleo Dawson is the well-known author of 
		<title render="italic">She Came to the Valley</title>, which was
		published in 1943. It was later made into a movie. Born in 1902 in Oklahoma
		City, she moved to Texas and attended school in Mission, Texas, a small town
		close to McAllen. During her college years, she attended Baylor College,
		Southern Methodist University (1922), and University of Kentucky. Miss Dawson
		taught Spanish at the Mission High School. In 1926 she married and moved to
		Lexington, Kentucky. In addition to writing, she worked as a guest psychologist
		for a number of years appearing on the Merv Griffith Show.</p>

		<p>This collection contains manuscripts of Cleo Dawson's works. They
		  include two screenplays, nine original manuscripts for four different novels
		  and their revisions and a thesis. Her thesis was on women prisoners in Kentucky
		  (1927).</p>
