Billye Lenoir Garrett was born in Eliasville, Texas on March 2, 1923.
Eliasville was an oil boom town near Throckmorton. She went to nursing school
in Abilene, Texas and eventually settled in the Lubbock area. She retired in
1994 from her nursing position at the Lubbock State School.

This collection contains Lenoir family correspondence dating from
1896-1969. One set of letters was written by Billye's father Henry Louis Lenoir
to his parents Henry Willington Lenoir and Amy Lee Posey Lenoir while he was
stationed in California during the First World War. Another set of letters are
from her grandparents Henry Willington Lenoir of Albany, Texas and Amy Lee
Posey of Haskell, Texas during their courtship in 1896. Another set of letters
was written in 1932 between Louis Lenoir to his wife Sally Bellomy Lenoir while
he was at a veterans hospital in Alexandria, Louisiana. Later correspondence
primarliy contains letters written to Billye from her parents in the 1950s and
1960s. Also included are copies of letters written to Sallye Lenoir by Otis
Woolridge during 1917-1918 while he was serving in Europe during World War
I.
