A poet, writer, and farmer, Jones was born in 1885 in Paint Rock,
Texas, and, in the same year, his family moved to Hale County, Texas. He farmed
in the Running Water Community in Hale County until 1945. He then worked for
the Agriculture Stabilization Office in Plainview, Texas, until 1957. He
married Lillie Ray, also of Hale County, in 1909, and the couple had five sons.
Jones' father, Thornton Jones, was one of the original settlers of Plainview,
Texas. Jones wrote numerous articles and poems concerning pioneer days in Texas
and the South Plains. He died in 1966 in Plainview, Texas.
