Biographical Sketch

The first meeting of the Lubbock Audubon Society was in 1965, but the society was not officially organized until March 1966. Due to a lack of interest, the organization failed in 1972, and was then reorganized in 1973. Their newsletter also began in 1973. In 1975, the name was changed to Llano Estacado Audubon Society (LEAS), and they were inducted into the National Audubon Society.

LEAS covers fifteen counties in Texas, which include the following: Bailey, Cochran, Crosby, Dickens, Floyd, Garza, Hale, Hockley, Kent, Lamb, Lubbock, Lynn, Motley, Terry, and Yoakum. The society encourages appreciation for natural history and preservation of natural resources, and is a non-profit educational organization in the Lubbock region.

Scope and Contents

The collection concerns the public service of the Llano Estacado Audubon Society (LEAS) and its reinstatement as a non-profit organization.
