Biographical Sketch

Dr. Paul Carlson is a professor of History at Texas Tech University. He received his Ph.D. from Texas Tech, taught at Texas Lutheran for a time and returned to Texas Tech in the 1980s to teach. He is the author of Empire Builder in the Texas Panhandle: William Henry Bush, William R. Shafter, Texas Woollybacks, and The Plains Indians. His interest in history ranges from military, ranching, frontier life, and Native Americans in the Western U.S. He is a fellow of the Texas State Historical Association.

Scope and Contents

The collection consists mostly of research materials used for Dr. Carlson's books on William R. Shafter and William Henry Bush. Also includes galley proofs and original typescripts of his book on the Plains Indians and minor materials for Texas Woollybacks.
