Biographical Sketch

The Morris Ranch was established in 1883 in Coleman County, Texas, by Joseph Phillip Morris. In 1922, the ranch was divided among Morris' six children. One of the ranches created from the division was the Rafter 3. Mattie B. Morris (1874-1969), president of the Rafter 3 Cattle Company, was very active in civic affairs in Coleman, Texas. Her son, J. P. Miller (1900-1974), also managed the Rafter 3 Ranch.

Scope and Contents

The collection contains business correspondence, financial and legal documents, literary productions, maps, photographs, and printed material concerning the activities of the Morris Ranch. The bulk of the materials are ledgers such as account books, daybooks, livestock, land, and general.
