In 1905, John began to divest his property to his children, Frank, Fred, Winnie, Orville, and Howard, by establishing the Finch Brothers Company. Part of the property included ranch lands near Dalhart, Texas, which brothers Frank and Orville took over. Orville eventually became mayor of Dalhart in 1921.
