Biographical Sketch

Arthur Pope Duggan, Sr., was a real estate developer and sales manager
for the Littlefield Lands Company in Littlefield, Texas, president of the West
Texas Chamber of Commerce, and a Texas State Senator. Born in 1876 in Hays
County, Texas, Duggan attended the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas
(now Texas A&M University), where he received a bachelor of civil
engineering degree in 1895. He then went to attend the University of Texas,
from which he received a law degree in 1898. In 1900, Duggan opened a law
office in Stamford, Texas, and married Sarah Elizabeth Harral, a niece of Maj.
George W. Littlefield, on June 18, 1902, in Austin. They had two children.

Duggan owned the Duggan Abstract Company from 1904-1911. From
1925-1927, he was president of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce in
Littlefield, Texas. His civic activities eventually led him to serve as a Texas
senator from 1933-1935. He died of heart failure on September 6, 1935.

The donor of the collection, Alice Duggan Gracy, was his daughter.
