Biographical Sketch

Betty J. Orbeck was born in Austin, Texas in 1929 and moved to Odessa in 1952 with her husband, James. She was co-founder of the Permian Historical Society in 1958 and served as its Executive Vice-president and Archivist from 1958-1961. She has also served as an archivist for the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum.

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of newspapers, periodicals, books, brochures, maps and printed materials that focus on the Permian Basin region of Texas. Prominent themes of the collection include civic activities, history, economy, and society of the region and its towns. An assortment of miscellaneous printed material is included also.
