Biographical Sketch

Mark Murray grew up in Lubbock on the same block as guitarist John Sprott of The Nelsons. He engineered their MTV "Basement Tapes" sensation in 1982, then went on to help establish the punk-flavored band Asparagus Nightmares in 1985 with Johnny Ray, Mark Matos, and Tom Blackburn. (Murray previously played with Blackburn in the Lubbock group Dune.) That quartet released its own eponymous album, recorded and mixed at Don Caldwell's studio. By the early 1990s Murray was working with Blackburn, Kevin Powell and Alan Crossland in Mesquite-O-Bytes.

With Mark Matos (bass), John Wilson (percussion), and Phil Bush (guitar), Mark Murray (keyboards and vocals) recently founded Four Stories Tall, "a drinking club with a bad music habit". Murray also operates his own record label, Sonic Biscuit, which released the band's first single, "Radicalized", in 2017.
