Biographical Sketch

T. G. Caraway, born in 1963, was raised on a Crosby County cotton farm and is a graduate of Lorenzo High School and West Texas State University. Caraway worked as a roadie for the Maines Brothers Band and helped found the West Texas Music Association in the mid-1980s. He plays guitar and has been active in documenting music performance in the region.

Active in the American Agriculture Movement, he drove in the Washington, D.C., Tractorcade in 1980. He has worked as a union and grassroots political organizer, running for Lubbock County commissioner in 2017.

Scope and Contents

The collection contains 45rpm and 33-1/3rpm vinyl records, audio and video cassettes, and audio tape reels. These document live and broadcast performances of the Maines Brothers Band, Natalie Maines and the Dixie Chicks, other West Texas musical acts and, especially, pedal steel guitar players. There are also recordings of union meetings, particularly relating to political action. Separate manuscript, artifact, and photograph collections from the donor supplement this archive. The collection is in good condition and is part of the Crossroads of Music archive.
