Biographical Sketch

Susan Collett Grisanti was an internationally known, award winning guitarist who performed solo and with orchestras throughout the US and Europe for over three decades. On the U.S. Embassy Touring Roster and five times a Texas Arts Commission touring artist, she was featured on dozens of TV and radio shows and performed for many including Presidents George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush, Tipper Gore, Texas Gov. Ann Richards, Lt. Gov. Bob Bullock, Tanya Tucker, and many others. She was the only solo instrumentalist to perform for the Capitol Restoration Celebration in Austin.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, she earned her Bachelor’s and Master of Arts degrees from the University of Akron before coming to study at Texas Tech University with Dr. James Bogle. She became known as the “First Lady of Classical Guitar” with a repertoire encompassing acoustic and electric guitar styles with songwriting. Her music was syndicated on National Public Radio’s “Classical Guitar Alive” and her video “Classical Dances” was featured on public television. She founded the Park Tower Guitar Concert Series, presenting renowned musicians in Lubbock, where she taught hundreds of students in colleges, private lessons and “Guitar Then and Now” workshops at the Buddy Holly Museum. Grisanti died in Lubbock on March 4, 2013, at the age of 56.
