Biographical Sketch

Dallas native Michael Hearne got his first guitar at the age of seven and turned professional as a teenager, eventually hitting what he calls the "Honky Tonk Road" to become a highly respected singer-songwriter and music producer based in Taos, New Mexico. His songs have been recorded by Jerry Jeff Walker, Johnny Rodriguez and Gary P. Nunn, among others.

He collaborates with Carmen Acciaoili, Zeke Severson and others in the band South by Southwest, touring nationwide to clubs and dance halls. In 2002 he swept the New Mexico Music Awards with a record-setting seven citations.

With volunteers, Hearne produces the annual Big Barn Dance Music Festival in various venues in and near Taos. Beginning as homegrown parties in 1985, the September event has grown to cover three days of music and two-stepping with guest artists and an associated songwriter workshop. In addition, he writes advertising jingles and develops real estate in the valley of the Sangre de Christo Mountains.
