Biographical Sketch

Barry Corbin (full name Leonard Barrie Corbin) was born October 10, 1940 in Lamesa, Texas. His father, Kilmer Corbin, was a lawyer and a Democratic member of the Texas State Senate from 1949-1957; and his mother, Alma LaMerle (Scott) Corbin, taught elementary school. Barry graduated from Monterey High School in Lubbock, Texas, before studying theater at Texas Technological College. Barry joined the Marine Corps and after being discharged in 1963 returned to acting. His first jobs were sporadic, and he spent most of the 60s traveling the country to act in regional Shakespearean theater and with touring companies.

In 1977 Corbin moved to Hollywood and began writing plays for National Public Radio and pursuing a career as an onscreen actor. During 1979 he was cast in Urban Cowboy, which launched his career in movies and television. Barry spent the 80s acting in supporting roles for movies and TV shows including War Games and Dallas, and in the early 1990s landed a role on the hit TV series Northern Exposure, for which he was nominated for an Emmy. He also appeared as Arkansas deputy Roscoe Brown in the televised mini-series Lonesome Dove. Barry has acted in many Western-themed films, and enjoys playing the role of a cowboy.

Corbin is also a talented author who has written and collaborated on many scripts. In 1996 Barry appeared in a one-man play he co-wrote with Lubbock poet/singer-songwriter Andy Wilkinson, Charlie Goodnight’s Last Night.

In the 21st century Corbin has continued to appear in major films and television series, which notably include the Oscar-winning film No Country for Old Men (2008), the hit TV series One Tree Hill (91 episodes, 2003-2011), and the film Anger Management (2013). He currently has several projects in production and operates a ranch near Fort Worth.
