A Guide to the Nancie Austin Papers, 1979-1983
Biographical NoteNancie Austin was a friend of Texas novelist Elithe Hamilton Kirkland, and currently resides in Wimberley, Texas. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and Content NoteThis collection is comprised of handwritten and typed letters from Texas author Elithe Hamilton Kirkland to friend Nancie Austin, of Wimberley, Texas. The letters date from 1979-1983, and relate to the friendship between Kirkland and Austin, and to the development of Kirkland’s novel, The Edge of Disrepute, published in 1984. The letters are arranged in chronological order by year, with earliest correspondence at the beginning of each folder. Among are the undated correspondence are typed copies of “The Drama of the Word”, an address Ms. Kirkland gave before the Texas Joint Council of Teachers of English, and “pertinent statements” extracted by Ms. Kirkland from this address.
