from 1966-1973, with the bulk from 1970-1971. Records are from the Public
Information Office during the administration of Governor Preston Smith,
governor from 1969 to 1973. The records were compiled by Carlton Carl,
Assistant Press Secretary to the Governor, in 1970-1971. During this time,
Robert Weddle was director of the Public Information Office. Topics of special
concern as reflected in the records include the environment and the original
Earth Day in 1970, drug abuse, traffic safety, welfare, and the relationship of
minorities with Governor Smith's administration.
