Facilities Inventory and Utilization reports from calendar years 1973 to
1983. This publication contains selected data collected by the Bureau in its
annual inventory of medical facilities. Types of facilities inventoried include
hospitals, nursing and custodial homes, rehabilitation outpatient clinics,
dialysis centers, public health centers, health maintenance organizations, and
migrant health projects.

Agency History
The Bureau of State Health Planning and Resource Development of the
Texas Department of Health conducts health development and planning activities
for the state. Part of its duties include data collection and dissemination
necessary for the development and implementation of the state health plan. As
part of this process, the Bureau conducts an annual inventory of medical
facilities across the state by sending out questionnaires. The information
collected through the questionnaires is used to establish a data base within
the Department of Health. Selected data is distributed to other agencies and
individuals concerned with health care in Texas through annually published
reports entitled Texas Medical Facilities Inventory
and Utilization.
Scope and Contents of the Records
Records in this accession consist entirely of copies of
Texas Medical Facilities Inventory and
Utilization reports from calendar years 1973 to 1983. This publication
contains selected data collected by the Bureau in its annual inventory of
medical facilities. Types of facilities inventoried include hospitals, nursing
and custodial homes, rehabilitation outpatient clinics, dialysis centers,
public health centers, health maintenance organizations, and migrant health
projects. Data from the questionnaires includes management/ownership of the
facility and the number of operating beds, admissions, discharges, patient
days, outpatient visits, emergency visits, outpatient services provided, and
the level of emergency care.
To prepare this preliminary inventory, the described materials were
cursorily reviewed to delineate series, to confirm the accuracy of contents
lists, to provide an estimate of dates covered, and to determine record
types.
