Agency HistoryThe Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program (BCCCP) was authorized by federal legislation, Public Law 101-354, as the Breast and Cervical Cancer Mortality Prevention Act of 1990. The program operates within the Texas Department of Health and is funded under cooperative agreement with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) with some funding also from the Texas Cancer Council. The purpose of the program is to provide breast and cervical cancer screening at no cost to low-income women. The program also provides community outreach, professional education, and data analyses. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and Contents of the RecordsRecords present are cancer surveys that were completed for a cancer study after 900 women were interviewed/screened for breast or cervical cancer. The surveys are dated 1993 and were conducted by the Texas Department of Health, Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program (BCCCP). The instructions to complete a survey were legally required by state law and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Records serve as documentation that the screenings were actually completed. Questions in the survey relate to health care the women received and health problems the women may have experienced.
