These are the files of the Publications Office of the Texas State
Library and Archives Commission (from 1909 to 1979, the Texas State Library and
Historical Commission). Materials were gathered by Millicent Huff, Publications
Officer, and cover the years 1909-ca. 1979, generally from 1960 to 1979. This
collection consists primarily of photographs of events, localities, and
individuals taken for publication in
Topics and events covered in these records are the dedication of the State Archives and Library Building in 1962, work by Peter Hurd and Peter Rogers (including original correspondence with the artist and early sketches) on the mural in the lobby of the same building, construction of and moving to the Records Center, the State Library bookmobile demonstrations, State Library history, American Association of State and Local History (AASLH) awards, and library meetings, such as the Governors Conferences on Libraries. The photos of the divisions of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission show equipment, personnel at work, reference areas, other interior building shots, and documents and artifacts of the Library. Many of the materials are grouped by subject. Those items not categorized as such are loosely arranged into groups--people, events, places. Also present are photos of libraries from around the state.
To prepare this preliminary inventory, the described materials were cursorily reviewed to delineate series, to confirm the accuracy of contents lists, to provide an estimate of dates covered, and to determine record types.

These records were transferred from the Publications Office, Administrative Division, Texas State Library and Archives Commission, to the Archives Division on November 4, 1988.
This building was dedicated in April 1962. The files contain correspondence, invitations, programs, and photographs of the groundbreaking and dedication ceremony.
The mural is located in the lobby of the Archives and Library Building. Initial background work on the project was begun by Peter Hurd. Early on, Hurd's son-in-law, Peter Rogers, took over responsibility for the work, including creation of the original design and painting of the mural. Files contain original correspondence with the artist, sketches, and photographs of the mural--both work in progress views and those of the completed mural. Additional mural correspondence can be found in the correspondence files of the Library and Archives Commission.

Nominations, textual materials, and photographs of awards presented by the American Association of State and Local History for contributions in local and state history. These do not relate specifically to libraries but were maintained by Millicent Huff in her position as the State Chairperson of the State AASLH Chapter during the period these were presented--late 1960s - 1970s.
