		<p>George Alec Effinger was born in Cleveland, Ohio 
		  <date>January 10, 1947</date>, and died 
		  <date>April 27, 2002</date>. His writing career started with attendance
		  at the Clarion Workshop in 1970, and his first publication in 1971. His first
		  novel was a Nebula award nominee. He received a Nebula award and Hugo Award for
		  best novelette, for <emph render="doublequote">Schroedinger’s Kitten.</emph>
		  John K. Diomede was a pseudonym. </p>
