         <head>Biographical Note</head>
         <p><persname>Wilson Tucker</persname>, known to most science fiction fans as <persname>Bob</persname>, has been a
science fiction reader and fan for over 70 years. One of the best known
and most popular science fiction fans, <persname>Bob</persname> is responsible for many of
the traditions honored by thousands of science fiction fans and writers
around the world.
</p> 
      <p><persname>Wilson Tucker</persname> has had over 60 short stories and novels published, and
was an active writer from the 1930s on.  In addition to science fiction,
<persname>Wilson</persname> wrote successful mysteries. Awards and honors include the <corpname>1970
HUGO </corpname>for Best Fan Writer.  His Year of the Quiet Sun won him the <corpname>John W.
Campbell Memorial Award</corpname> in 1976, a nomination for a <corpname>NEBULA</corpname> in 1970, and
a <corpname>HUGO</corpname> nomination in 1971.  Other awards include:<corpname> First Fandom Hall of
Fame Award</corpname>, 1985; <corpname>E.E. Smith Memorial Award</corpname>, 1986.  At a ceremony on the
<persname>Queen Mary</persname> in 1996, Tucker was the second person honored by the <corpname>Science
Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America</corpname> as Author Emeritus.
Wilson worked as a projectionist at theatres such as the Castle in
<geogname>Bloomington, Illinois</geogname>. And as an electrician for touring companies.
