Henry Clay Dethloff (b. Aug. 10, 1934) received his B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1956, his M.A. from Northwestern State College in 1960, and his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri in 1964. Dr. Dethloff joined the faculty of the History Department at Texas A &amp; M University in 1969, and served as departmental chair from 1980 to 1985. The Henry C. Dethloff Papers (1970-1976) consist of four boxes (6 linear feet) containing materials Dethloff collected when researching and writing his books, <title render="italic" linktype="simple">A Pictorial History of Texas A &amp; M University: 1876-1976</title> (College Station: Texas A &amp; M University Press, 1975), and <title render="italic" linktype="simple">A Centennial History of Texas A &amp; M University: 1876-1976</title> (College Station: Published for the Association of Former Students by the Texas A &amp; M University Press, 1975). </abstract>

         <p>Henry Clay Dethloff (b. Aug. 10, 1934) received his B.A. from the <corpname>University of Texas at Austin</corpname> in 1956, his M.A. from <corpname>Northwestern State College</corpname> in 1960, and his Ph.D. from the <corpname>University of Missouri</corpname> in 1964.          <p>The Henry C. Dethloff Papers (1970-1976) consist of four boxes (6 linear feet) containing materials Dethloff collected when researching and writing his book, <title render="italic" linktype="simple">A Pictorial History of Texas A &amp; M: A Tradition in Higher Education</title>, which was published as two titles by <corpname>Texas A &amp; M University Press</corpname>:  <title render="italic" linktype="simple">A Pictorial History of Texas A &amp; M University: 1876-1976</title> (<geogname>College Station</geogname>: <corpname>Texas A &amp; M University Press</corpname>, 1975), and <title render="italic" linktype="simple">A Centennial History of Texas A &amp; M University: 1876-1976</title> (<geogname>College Station</geogname>:  Published for the <corpname>Association of Former 
Students</corpname> by the <corpname>Texas A &amp; M University Press</corpname>, 1975).  </p>
         <p>Materials include miscellaneous articles; biographical notes; correspondence; enrollment tables; lists of <corpname>Texas A &amp; M University</corpname> Boards of Directors (1876-1934), Presidents (1876-1934), Secretaries of the Boards of Directors (July 15, 1876-August 1, 1965,) recipients of <subject>honorary degrees, </subject>and <subject>deceased alumni</subject>; memorandums; miscellaneous notes; background notes for the book, rough copies of chapters, final copies of chapters, manuscript copies and page proofs of the book.</p>
         <p>The Dethloff Papers are organized into one series divided into six subseries, with all the research materials described first, followed by files containing materials representing  different states in the process of completing the book for publication.</p>
         <p>Series 1.  <title render="italic" linktype="simple">A Pictorial History of Texas A &amp; M: A Tradition in Higher Education</title> by Henry C. Dethloff, 1970-1976 and undated, is arranged alphabetically, and  contains general background information, chapter notes, drafts, manuscripts, and page proofs for Dethloff's book,  <title render="italic" linktype="simple">A Pictorial History of Texas A &amp; M: A Tradition in Higher Education,</title> which was published by the <corpname>Texas A &amp; M University Press</corpname> in 1975 as two books, <title render="italic" linktype="simple">A Centennial history of Texas A &amp; M University, 1876-1976</title> and <title render="italic" linktype="simple">A Pictorial history of Texas A &amp; M University, 1876-1976</title>.  </p>
         <p>Series 1.  Subseries 1.   Research materials contains miscellaneous articles; biographical notes; correspondence; student enrollment tables; lists of the Boards of Directors (1876-1934); Presidents (1876-1934); Secretaries to the Boards of Directors (July 15, 1876-August 1, 1965); recipients of honorary degrees; deceased alumni; and memoranda.  </p>
         <p>Series 1.  Subseries 2. Chapter notes, contains notes for writing individual chapters 1-27 and the Preliminary Bibliography of the book.</p>
         <p>Series 1.  Subseries 3. Rough copies, contains rough copies of the book's preliminaries, Chapter Outline and individual chapters with footnotes, as well as Preliminary Bibliographies and Appendices.</p>
         <p>Series 1.  Subseries 4. Final Copies, Subseries 5. Manuscript copies, and Subseries 6. Page Proofs complete the picture of the book as it progressed from notes to published title.</p>
         <p>Missing from the Dethloff Papers are background notes for chapters twenty, twenty-six, and twenty-seven; the rough copy of chapter seven; and the final chapters of seven and nine.</p>
