Received under custody agreement from the Texas State Library of Austin, Tex. in 1993.

Acquisition Information

These records were transported to Dallas when Governor William P. Clements' first term ended on January 18, 1983. They were transferred to the custody of Texas A & M University in 1993 under the agreement signed by Texas A & M University, the Texas State Library, and Governor Clements. They remain in the property of the Texas State Library but are housed at Texas A & M University where they are available to researchers during the regular hours of the Cushing Memorial Libary.

The following series of 31 folders contain information taken from volume three, Implementation Plan, of the report of the 1977 White House Conference on Handicapped Individuals. This same information, along with additional notes, is incorporated in the Final Report of the Governor's Task Force for Handicapped Individuals. The folders are in the same order as they are in the Final Report. What is included here are the original 1977 statements as approved or edited by various state agencies after their review of them.

Series 3. Recommendations Files, undated.

The following 10 folders contain recommendations to the Governor's Task Force for Handicapped Citizens from the Department of Mental Health/Mental Retardation. The numbers given after each title are the numbers from the Implementation volume of the report of the 1977 White House Conference on Handicapped Individuals. For each recommendation the Department of Mental Health/Mental Retardation has provided information on how it has already implemented, or how it plans to implement the recommendations.
The folders which follow contain recommendations from various state agencies, in some cases from several agencies. Each agency has indicated how it has implemented, or how it plans to implement the recommendation. The numbers at the end of each title are from the Implementation volume of the 1977 report of the White House Conference On Handicapped Individuals.
