Biographical SketchThe Allen Ranch, headquartered in Harris County, Texas, was established in the early 1840s and operated for more than 100 years. Samuel W. Allen started his ranch by rounding up wild longhorn cattle and shipping them to New Orleans and Cuba. By the 1860s he had acquired a monopoly on the trade. Part of the original ranch has become the Houston Ship channel. By 1947 the ranch had been liquidated.
