Biographical SketchBurkburnett is located in north central Wichita County. In 1912, oil was discovered west of town. Large strikes drew thousands of people to the area until the boom died out in the late 1920s. In 1941, Sheppard Air Force Base was established nearby. By 1989 the population had grown to over 11,000 and the economy was based on the production of chemical products, plastics, and machinery.
