Collection on Cabin in the Sky, 1942-1943
The film Cabin in the Sky premiered in Dallas at the Majestic Theater in Dallas, Texas on March 11, 1943. The notable MGM film features an all African American cast and stars Ethel Waters and Rex Ingram, Eddie 'Rochester' Anderson and Lena Horne. Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington and his Orchestra also appeared in the film. Cabin in the Sky was directed by Vincente Minnelli (his first feature film).

Collection is open for research use. Appointment with curatorial staff at Hamon Library is required.

The McCord-Renshaw collection originated as the McCord Theatre Museum at Southern Methodist University in 1933. It was transferred to the Hamon Arts Library in 1990.
The art work is placed in flat archival boxes; conservation has been completed on all items.
