      <head>Biographical Note</head> 
           <p>The collection includes materials collected by Catherine Fleming while she was the secretary of actress Katharine Cornell as well as their subsequent years of friendship. Catherine Fleming was a lifelong Dallas resident. She graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1925 and was later active in both the Little Theatre of Dallas and the Oak Cliff Little Theatre. From 1935-1955, she worked as Katharine Cornell’s secretary and also assisted her on several national tours. </p> 
           <p>Katharine Cornell is considered one of the greatest American stage actresses of the 20th century. Married to director Guthrie McClintic, she was also a producer. She is best known for productions such as <emph render="italic">The Green Hat,</emph><emph render="italic"> The Barretts of Wimpole Street,</emph><emph render="italic"> Candida</emph> and many others. Cornell received a Tony Award for her portrayal of Cleopatra in Antony and Cleopatra in 1948.</p>

           <p>The Catherine Fleming collection of Katharine Cornell was received in little discernible order. During its processing, the collection was divided into separate files for clippings, correspondence, ephemera, programs, publicity, and published works. Folded documents were flattened, and the papers were arranged alphabetically/chronologically by subject and medium, placed in acid-free folders, and stored in acid-free boxes.</p>
