Graduate School Faculty of Southern Methodist University recordsA Guide to the Collection
Historical NoteSMU has offered graduate degrees since its inception in 1915. The graduate school appears to have grown quite slowly during the 1910s and 1920s, thus, much of the documentation in the early part of the collection relates to enrollment numbers and expenses incurred for the school. The graduate school has grown rapidly over the course of the twentieth century, the university having added a number of master’s and doctoral programs at its various colleges, including Dedman College. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and Contents of the CollectionThe collection includes reports from the graduate school to the board of trustees on enrollment figures, budgetary reports, and correspondence between faculty members about issues related to the graduate school. This is a small, incomplete collection for the inclusive years. Interested researchers should note that both the Faculty Senate Records and the Dedman College Faculty Council records will contain more extensive materials on graduate studies at SMU.
