Creator Sketch

Mary von Sartor Scheihagen, the daughter of Alex and Sophine Duffenbach Sartor, was born in 1841, probably in Germany, and moved with her parents to New Braunfels, Texas, in 1845. Her father owned a brewery in San Antonio, Texas, and her brother Alexander Sartor was a prominent San Antonio jeweler and alderman. She married Louis Scheihagen, with whom she lived in San Antonio. Mary Scheihagen died in 1916 and was buried in San Antonio City Cemetery #1.

Scope and Content Note

Illustrations, a ladies' newspaper, schoolwork, and photographs illustrate the family and domestic interests of Mary von Sartor Scheihagen. The top portion of a sheet of illustrated letterhead shows San Antonio in 1855, and is probably from a brewing company. Der Bazar (Berlin, October 23, 1860) provides sewing and craft patterns. A school project showing European maps was drawn by Max Scheihagen. Four photographs show Mary von Sartor Scheihagen, Dora Scheihagen, and Lilly Scheihagen.
