		<p>Henry E. Elrod, the donor of the collection, was a consulting engineer in Houston, Texas.  He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.  He was a friend of George A. Hill and was interested in Texas currency, donating several warrants and other artifacts to the San Jacinto Museum. </p>

		<head>Scope and Content Note</head> 
		<p>The Henry E. Elrod Collection is comprised of correspondence, financial and legal documents dating from 1866 to 1870 which concern the city of Brownsville, Texas.  The single correspondence is dated February 5th, 1867 and is addressed to the city council of Brownsville from G. Reynolds, Deputy City Marshal of Brownsville, Texas, regarding claims against the Mayor and future laws and precedents that should be defined by the city council.  </p>
		<p>Financial documents include four bills and a police payroll.  There are two bills charged to the city of Brownsville from two individuals for services rendered to the city dated in 1869.  Two partially printed bills dated in 1869 and 1870 to the City of Brownsville were for purchases made from Joseph L. Putegnat, druggist and apothecary, dealer in drugs, chemicals, paints, fancy goods, etc.  There is also an 1869 Brownsville Police Department payroll list signed by Police Chief Bryan Gorman.</p>
		<p>The legal document is a three page ledger dating from 1866 to 1867 which lists the names of the 223 people buried in the Brownsville Cemetery.</p>
