Scope and Content Note

The Jones-Lynn-Parsons Papers consist of correspondence, financial and legal documents dated from 1828 to 1833 documenting the life and business dealings of Wiley Jones, and the firms of Lynn and Parsons, and Lynn and Jones written at Montgomery and Mobile, Alabama, New Orleans, Louisiana and Augusta, Georgia. Correspondence is divided into Wiley Jones and Lynn and Parsons. The five letters to Wiley Jones are dated in 1833 and concern business dealings and monetary exchanges. The Lynn and Parsons correspondence is dated in 1832 and concerns a business transaction.

Financial Documents are divided into account list, bills, receipts and promissory notes and subdivided by individual or individuals. There is a single undated account list belonging to Wiley Jones which includes a running tally. Seven bills for Lynn and Parsons dated from 1832 to 1833 for textiles and articles of clothing are included. There is a single bill for Jonathon Parsons for champagne, wine, etc. There are five receipts of Wiley Jones dated in 1833 which concern payment on various items including a five day hotel stay in Montgomery, Alabama. Receipts for Lynn and Jones include eight receipts dated in 1833 which record payment for clothing items, stationery and dry goods. Lynn and Parsons' receipts date from 1832 to 1833 and record payment received for dry goods, clothing and locks. Three promissory notes signed by Lynn and [Jones] are included.

There are three legal documents pertaining to Wiley Jones: an 1832 business contract, an 1828 indenture, and a Richmond County, Georgia, court summons to Wiley Jones issued in 1832 to testify on the part and behalf of the plaintiff.
