Creator Sketch

C. M. Russell was born in 1843 in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1861 he entered the Confederate Army and served under General Robert E. Lee. Russell was later taken prisoner by the Northern army. In 1869 he married Telitha E. Kilgore and together they had ten daughters and one son. Russell came to Texas in 1886 and remained there until his death in January of 1905.

Scope and Content Note

The C. M. Russell Papers document the military service of C. M. Russell in 1865 during the Civil War. Documents include a 30-day leave, a military pass and a military railroad pass granting C. M. Russell, paroled prisoner, passage to his home in Stevenson, Alabama.
