The Mathias Family Papers contain correspondence, land certificates and legal documents pertaining to Coahuila y Texas and the Colorado ＆ Red River Land Company from the years 1835 to 1838. There is an 1837 letter from Charles LeBaron, agent for the Colorado ＆ Red River Land Company, to a Mr. Mathias discussing a method of payment and land prospects in Texas. Land certificates include a handwritten copy of a certificate transferring rights and title from James Grant to Vicente Aldrete and an 1836 certificate stating that Hambleton Mathias is entitled to one league of land belonging to what was known as the Colorado and Red River Land Company. The legal document is issued by Charles LeBaron stating that G. W. Thompson will deliver to Mr. Mathias his certificates of shares of stocks in the Colorado ＆ Red River Land Company, in Texas, and a grant of one league of land which belongs to Mr. LeBaron. Transcripts of all documents are included in the collection.
