Benjamin Rice Aston, attorney and historian, was born in Houston on February 26, 1934, graduated from Rice University in 1956, and continued his education at the University of Texas School of Law. An active member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Sons of the Republic of Texas, and the San Jacinto Descendants, Aston died on February 22, 2007.

This collection contains copies of newspaper articles about Texas history, copied from the Dallas Morning News, the Houston Chronicle, the Houston Post, the Houston Press, the San Antonio Express and other Texas newspapers. Arrangement is by subject and chronological, as arranged by the donor; series are Texas - The Colonial Period, Texas Indian Stories, the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Texas, Six Battles of the Texas Revolution, San Jacinto, The Texas Navy, Texas 1836-1936, Sam Houston, and Early Days in Houston.
