		<head>Scope and Content Note</head>
<p>The Walter E. Grover Collection is comprised of an 1882 creative work, a photographic album and additional photographs. The creative work is a five page poem written in April of 1882 by Mary Hunt McCaleb in memory of the battle of San Jacinto. A typescript of the poem is included. The bound leather photo album, which belonged to Mrs. F. H. Merriman is comprised of about 100 carte de visite photographs ranging in subject from statues to famous portraits to Civil War soldiers. In addition to these photographs, there are 6 loose photographs which were found inside the back of the album. These photographs include an 1866 <title render="italic">Congress Avenue, Austin,</title> carte de visite, one Victoria card photograph of an unidentified young woman, and three cabinet card photographs: an 1869 unidentified woman dressed as <title render="italic">Ganem</title> in the forty thieves, <title render="italic">Minne-ha-ha</title> waterfalls and an unidentified woman in royal robes. Also included is a more recent snapshot of a young unidentified boy. </p>
