Scope and Content Note

The Beulah Andrus Emmerick Collection is comprised of legal documents, printed materials and photographs spanning the years of 1831 to 1928. Two documents are included in the legal documents: an abstract of title for one league of land in Fort Bend County, Texas, issued to Isaac McGary by the Mexican government, prepared by Walter Andrus, Richmond, Texas. The second document is a certificate issued to Mr. S. N. Parks of Tennessee, stating that he has passed his examinations by the Medical Faculty for the degree of Doctor of Medicine.

The printed materials are separated by type and then organized chronologically. The invitations subseries contains four funeral invitations for Samuel House, Dr. Stephen N. Parks, and Mrs. Ophelia C. Parkes. A lock of blond hair is included with the invitation for Samuel House. Invitations to social events include two to a tournament and ball at the courthouse, an 1884 "Leap Year Hop" by the young ladies of Columbia, Texas, and an invitation to a grand ball at the Quintana Pavilion, in Quintana, Texas. Two programs of
The Knightly Roll, St. Withold's Field
for the years 1879 and 1883 are included. Religious cards featuring lithographs of St. Angela, St. Vincent Ferrer, and Pope Pius IX show the family's interest in religion. The miscellaneous subseries includes an 1880 lithograph letterhead with a picture of the Ursuline Academy, Galveston, a facsimile of
The Unanimous Declaration of the Thirteen United States of America
ca. 1900, a general admission ticket and promenade ticket to the 1928 Democratic National Convention in Houston, Texas, and an undated colored calling card of Musetta Sweeny.

The photographs series includes daguerreotypes of Mr. and Mrs. Jordan Sweeny set in a double frame opening in the back and the front with the front decorated in gilt. Also included is a photograph postcard of the <emph render="doublequote">Old Capitol</emph> built in 1836 in Columbia, Texas taken by Schlueter. The photograph was previously part of a scrapbook.
