They continued to serve until September 1, 1836 in Captain Byrd Lockhardt's spy company. Claiborne Rector married twice and had three children by his first wife. He died March 23, 1873, in Lavernia, Wilson County, Texas. Pendleton Rector married Mary Jane Bridges in 1848, with whom he had two children. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and Content NoteThis small collection of five items, two letters, a tax receipt, a certificate of military service, and a Texas Veterans Association membership certificate, constitute a brief glimpse into the lives of two San Jacinto veterans during and immediately following the Texas Colonial Period. Of particular interest are the two letters (1831 and 1832) which comment on the richness of the Texas land and the current political and military situations while urging relatives to join the Rectors in Texas. The 1832 letter refers to Santa Anna by name. Return to the Table of Contents
