Guide to the Historical Society at Rice University records UA 305
The Historical Society was comprised of members of the Rice faculty, drawn primarily from the Humanities Departments. The society met monthly at the Faculty Club (also known as Cohen House), at which time one of its members would present an original paper. On occasion scholars from other institutions were invited to speak to the group. The society had its final meeting in December, 1962.
This society is not related to the Rice Historical Commission or the Rice Historical Society, both of which are organizations formed to promote the history of Rice University.
The collection consists of meeting notices that give the dates of the meetings and in most cases list the expected speaker and topic. In addition there are two books of meeting minutes that detail the activities of the Society.
