Biographical note: Edward and Naomi (Petie) Guion Holloway

Edward and Naomi (Petie) Guion Holloway were graduates of Rice University from the class of 1933. Edward was a gifted member of the track team throughout his years at Rice, and a long-time supporter of Rice and Rice athletics. He captained the track team from 1932-1933, became a member of the “R” Association, and received the Varsity “R” award in track for 1931-1933. He earned a BS in physical education and was a physical education instructor in his senior year at Rice. Naomi (Petie) Guion graduated with a B. A. from Rice. She was active in the Campanile staff, the Cranmer Club, May Fete, and the “R” and Quill Associations. The Holloways married in 1938. After World War II, the Holloways moved to Atlanta, Georgia when Mr. Holloway joined the Coca-Cola Company. Mr. Holloway worked many years in the Transportation Department of Coca-Cola, becoming an active participant in transportation trade associations in Atlanta. He retired as marketing controller of the company. Mr. Holloway died on July 20, 1985. Mrs. Holloway died on January 20, 2009, at 100, and was buried at Forest Park Lawndale Memorial Park in Houston, Texas. The Holloways, who were childless, left their estate of $6.6 million to Rice University to endow a need-based scholarship fund, provide yearly contributions to the Rice Annual Fund, and to replace the track at the Track/Soccer Stadium. In their honor, the track and field complex has been renamed Holloway Field and Ley Track.
