Historical Note

The Chaille Rice Literary Society (CRLS) was formed in 1950 and named for the wife of Benjamin B. Rice, Houston businessman and nephew of the founder of the University, and member of the Board of Trustees for many years. The CRLS members were known on campus by the calendar of events they published and by ushering at Player productions. Over the years, the CRLS's members included more and more off-campus students, making it harder than normal to interest freshmen in their society. In the spring of 1968, the majority of the club graduated and the organization finally disbanded on February 18, 1968.
