Abstract William G. Farrington, 1901-1967, was a real estate developer of residential and commercial property in the Greater Houston Area. He is especially known for creating Tanglewood, wealthy neighborhood located west of the Galleria area in Houston, Texas. He also was known for creating the Fairmont Park subdivisions and the Post Oak Shopping Center. He served as a director of several Houston area banks and savings and loan associations. The collection contains fives series covering real estate ventures and other organizations and interests, Fairmont Park, Tanglewood, publicity, photos, and oversize materials. The materials cover the years 1937 to 2000 and are in excellent shape. This collection consists of 3.5 linear feet (7 boxes).

Biographical note

William Giddings Farrington was born September 10, 1901 in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. He died in Houston on November 30, 1967.

He was a communicant of St. John The Divine Episcopal Church. He was involved in numerous organizations in the Houston area, including the Institute of Religion in the Texas Mexical Center, St. Luke's Hospital, Rice University, University of Houston, the Houston Symphony Society, Houston Grand Opera Association, and the Kiwanis Club of Houston.

For many years, he was active in real estate subdivision development and in residential and shopping center construciton. Some of his accomplishments, include Tanglewood and Fairmont Park subdivisions and the Post Oak Shopping Center. He served as a director of several Houston area banks and savings and loan associations. He was married to Bernice Brunson of Anadarko, Oklahoma. He had one daughter, Mary Catherine, and four granchildren.
