A.T. Mahan was an American naval officer and historian. He authored the highly influential book, The Influence of Seapower Upon History.
Scope and contents
Letter written from American naval officer and historian A.T. Mahan to Gen. James Wilson regarding the publication of Mahan’s biography of Farragut. Admiral David Glasgow Farragut (1801-1870), an American naval officer who served during the U.S. Civil War, is quoted as having said at the Battle of Mobile Bay, “…Damn the torpedoes … full speed ahead!”
