Historical Note

Beginning in 1891, the Rice Institute (later University) Board of Trustees recorded minutes of their meetings, both those dealing with the Rice Institute and those concerned with operations of the Rice Land Lumber Company. The Board of Trustees meetings were held to discuss a wide range of topics, including the academic curriculum, faculty, student and campus activities, related community affairs, and other current issues with which the Board was concerned. The Minute Books of the Rice Land Lumber Company record property and management dealings undertaken by the Company.

Scope and Contents

The [Rice University] Board of Trustees Records, measuring 22.25 cubic feet and dated 1891-2005, are organized into two series: Series I, Board of Trustees Minute Books, containing bound volumes, microfilm, and indices; and Series II, Rice Land Lumber Company Minute Books, three bound volumes in 1 box.
