Biographical Note
The Caldwell Family are active local historians and live in Albany, Tx. Clifton and Shirley Caldwell are active in the Texas State Historical Association and the Texas Historical Commission.
Scope and Contents
Drafts of manuscripts, correspondence, photocopies of primary source research, notes and one photograph in support of an article for the Texas State Historical Association titled: "'God help them all and so must we': Clara Barton, Reverend John Brown, and Drought Relief Efforts, 1886-1887." Research on the John Larn Inquest and the Shackelford County Courthouse and its restoration. Also, a DVD video of home movies by Horace Sedwick, 1927, 1930s. Video shows downtown Albany, members of the Sedwick Family, the Webb Family, the Nail Family, the Blanton Family, the Matthews Family and many other unidentified persons.
Arrangement
The papers are separated into 4 series. Series 1: "'God help them all and so must we': Clara Barton, Reverend John Brown, and Drought Relief Efforts, 1886-1887," inventories the bulk of this collection.
Series 2: John Larn Inquest includes the one folder of research relating to the inquest.
Series 3: Shackelford County Courthouse Restoration comes from accession AR.2003.041 and consists of research in preparation of the renovation of the Shackelford County Courthouse
Series 4: Video shot by Horace Sedwick in 1927 and the 1930s was transferred to DVD by Clifton Caldwell. Footage of 1 mile hill outside of Albany, a parade down Main Street showing downtown Albany featuring Sedwick's daughter Margie (later Marge Bray), an oil derrick owned by Sedwick, a cattle auction featuring J.H. Nail Sr., and Watt Matthews, footage of Tom Blanton, Adeline "Aunt Puss" Nail Ivy, and Sam Webb.
