Historical Note

Counted among the original settlers of Austin’s Colony in the 1820’s and 1830’s in Texas, the Bryan Family were relatives of Stephen F. Austin and the City of Bryan was named for them. This collection includes personal correspondence between various members of the Bryan family, as well as items from friends and business associates. There is also correspondence from attorneys hired by the Bryans. Additionally, there are blueprints for a house possibly designed by Stephen F. Austin; they are accompanied by a typewritten transcript of a letter signed, “S. F.”
