Historical Note

Radical Republican governor Edmund J. Davis appointed Thomas H. Scanlan mayor of Houston in 1870, an office Scanlan held until 1874. Later, Scanlan acted as president of the Houston Water Works Company and vice-president of the Houston Gas Light Company.


Scope and Contents

This small collection contains information on the Scanlan family. It deals primarily with commercial establishments in Houston in the early 1900s.

The collection is divided into 2 boxes. The first box contains bills, receipts, and correspondence. The second box contains maps, schedules, and an advertisement.
