Davis appointed Thomas H. Scanlan  mayor of Houston in 1870, an office Scanlan held until 1874.  Later, Scanlan acted as president of the Houston Water Works Company and vice-president of the Houston Gas Light Company.</p></bioghist><scopecontent encodinganalog="520"><head>Scope and Contents</head><p>This small collection contains information on the Scanlan family. It deals primarily with commercial establishments in Houston in the early 1900s.</p></scopecontent><arrangement encodinganalog="351$"><head>Arrangement</head><p>The collection is divided into 2 boxes.
