Moses Leroy became a noted labor and Civil Rights leader in the Houston area. An employee of the Southern Pacific Railroad for more than forty years, Moses Leroy fought to end discrimination and oppression for railway workers. Leroy was also involved in civic and political affairs. He became active in the Model Cities program in Houston in the 1970's and served on the Board of Directors of the Y.M.C.A. Leroy also served on the executive board of the NAACP in the 1940's, and later served as Vice-President of the Texas Council of Voters.

 Scope and Contents

The Moses Leroy Collection contains correspondence, clippings, and other miscellaneous materals relevant to a study of the civil rights movement in Houston and in the United States.
