		<head>Biographical Note</head> 
		<p>The University Area Women of Rotary was organized in 
		  <date normal="1948">1948</date>. The active membership consisted of the
		  wives of the members of the University Rotary Club, Houston, Texas. The
		  organization engaged in two major philanthropic projects, a nursing scholarship
		  endowment fund and donations to the Houston Area Women's Center. The group's
		  social activities included parties, teas, luncheons and fundraising events.
		  Because of a drop in membership, the organization disbanded effective as of 
		  <date normal="19900901">September 1, 1990</date>. The members were then
		  invited to join with the Women of Rotary of Houston District 589.</p>

		<head>Scope and Contents</head> 
		<p>This collection contains the working records of the organization. Most
		  of the material is from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, and there is some material
		  dating back to the 1950s.</p>

		<head>Arrangement</head> 
		<p>This collection is divided into four subgroups. The first subgroup
		  consists of information related to the organizational structure. The second
		  subgroup deals with each individual officer and her duties and activities. The
		  records of the treasurer and secretary make up the largest portion of this
		  subgroup. The third subgroup is divided by committees in alphabetical order.
		  The project committee has information on the Houston Area Women's Center and
		  the Nursing Students Scholarship Fund. The fourth and final subgroup contains
		  yearbooks from 1978-1990. The yearbooks are a good source for a general
		  overview of the organization and contain a copy of the constitution. The
		  divisions within the subgroups reflect the original order of the records.</p>
