Scope and Content Note

This collection contains tracings, linens, and blueprints of the landscape architectural firm that was important in shaping Houston's public image. Hare and Hare worked with Houston's Parks Department and City Planning Department which resulted in this collection containing plans for most of the city's parks including Memorial Park and Hermann Park. Plans for the proposed 1928 civic center are included. Also included are plans for the improvements along Buffalo Bayou from 1914-1949. The collection reflects the firm's work in school landscaping including plans for the University of Houston, Texas Southern University, and various public schools in the Houston area. While acting as private landscaping consultants, Hare and Hare executed plans for several landmark Houston residences and plat plans for several subdivisions. This primary source of information would be of particular interest to scholars of urban history, architectural history, and landscape history.
